Dan Bradford '05 (Pepperell, Mass.) gave the Bates men's soccer team a 1-0 lead with a goal on a penalty kick in the Bobcats' season opening 2-1 overtime loss against 25th-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon.Bradford, who led the team in scoring in 2003, put his shot in the lower left corner to give Bates a 1-0 lead with less than nine minutes to play.
The Bobcats, now 0-1-0 on the season, plays the University of Maine at Farmington in their home opener at 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

Olivia Zurek '05 (Arlington, Mass.) averaged 4.44 kills per game with a .327 hitting percentage to lead the Bates volleyball team to wins over Bowdoin and Gordon in the Bobcats' first two matches of the season.Zurek posted 18 kills and 16 digs in a four-game win over Bowdoin, then added 22 kills and 16 digs in a five-game win over Gordon.
Bates, now 2-0, will face Colby in a Colby-Bates-Bowdoin match on Wednesday night in Waterville.
