Bates senior Joel Colony(Harrisville, N.H.) won the Alan Hillman Award as the most outstanding track athlete as the Bates College men's track and field team won the State of Maine outdoor championship for the fifth consecutive year last Saturday at Colby College.Colony was the winner in both the 100-meter dash (11.07) and the 200-meter dash (22.06), placing just ahead of junior teammate Matt Capone in both events.
Colony also ran the anchor leg in the 4x400 relay, which the Bobcats needed to win to claim the overall crown ahead of Bowdoin College. Despite the absence of injured senior teammate Adam Macbeth, Colony and teammates Capone, junior Sam Thomas and first-year Michael Watson won in 3:21.96.
The Bobcats compete at the New England Small College Athletic Conference Championships this weekend at Bowdoin.

Bates junior pitcher Kristin Masino (North Arlington, N.J.) was credited with six victories and one loss during Bates' 7-3 week, including two complete-game wins against NESCAC East Division rival Colby College, propelling the Bobcats into a late-season fight for a bid to the NESCAC Championship.Masino allowed only 11 earned runs over 44 innings of work, striking out 28 batters along the way as she raised her record to 13-5.
She made a significant contribution at the plate, too, notching five hits with three RBIs and a run scored.
