Gauthier, a sophomore from Amherst, N.H., staked 20 points to the Bates men's indoor track and field team's side at the 14-team Tufts Invitational on Saturday, aiding instrumentally in the Bobcats' improbable chance at first place overall.Gauthier, the younger brother of Dustin Gauthier '05, a former All-American in the indoor weight throw, won both the shot put (47-5.25) and the weight throw (54-11.5), and completed his goal of qualifying for the NCAA Division III championships in the weight -- in addition to his earlier qualification in the shot put.
The Bates College men finished second in points out of 14 teams at the meet, just 4.50 points behind a Tufts squad that had over twice as many athletes. The Bobcats (142 points) finished well ahead of third-place SUNY Plattsburgh (113.50), as well as Trinity, Worcester State, Wesleyan, Keene State, Rhode Island College, Amherst, Salem State, Colby, Fitchburg State, Assumption and Hartwick.

Getting 20 points from Keelin Godsey at an indoor track meet is nothing new. But on Saturday it led the Bates women to an outstanding team performance at the Tufts Invitational.Godsey, already a seven-time indoor or outdoor NCAA All-American in five different events, won the 20-pound weight throw (58-5.25) by over 13 feet and the shot put (44-8.25) by nearly seven feet, adding a provisional NCAA Championships qualification in the shot put to the automatic qualification he had already achieved in the weight.
Godsey's 20 points were indispensable in Bates' second-place finish out of 16 teams at the meet. The Bobcats scored 95 points, behind Tufts (163) and ahead of Amherst (86), Colby, Keene State, SUNY Plattsburgh, Trinity, Wesleyan, Rhode Island College, Worcester State, Fitchburg State, Salem State, Mount Holyoke, Assumption, Regis and Hartwick.
