Senior Zak Ray(Bangor, Maine) added his name to the list of men's basketball players at Bates who have scored 1,000 points in their collegiate careers. He nailed a three-pointer in the second half of Bates' 70-55 victory over his hometown Husson Eagles to become the 27th member of the 1,000-point club.It was part of a big 3-0 week for the Bobcats, who went 3-0 on the week including a 72-44 thrashing of Tufts on Saturday. Over the three games Ray averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 assists and 3.0 steals. He currently ranked first in the NESCAC in steals per game (2.76 spg) and second in assists (6.35 apg).

Megan Papineaureached the podium in the women's giant slalom at the St. Michael's College Winter Carnival on Friday, something no Bobcat alpine skier had accomplished since 2001, according to head coach Rogan Connell.In doing so, the sophomore from Keene, N.Y., helped spur the Bates ski teams to an excellent fifth-place finish out of 12 teams overall at the carnival, matching their best placing of last season in the season's first official event.
The Bates ski teams finished the Carnival in fifth place overall out of 12 teams with 512 points, beating out rivals Williams (486), St. Lawrence (427) and Colby (387) and trailing only Dartmouth, Vermont, Middlebury and New Hampshire.
Racing at Smugglers Notch, Papineau had runs of 56.73 and 58.91 seconds for a total time of 1:55.64, behind only competitors from Dartmouth and Vermont. The following day in the women's slalom, Papineau came in 16th out of 51 competitors, second on the team after classmate Liz Thompson, who was 11th.
