Although no one from Bates was pleased with the Bobcats' men's tennis team's loss at Brandeis on Sunday, the young team did see the continued development of some sharp freshman talent, in particular fromZach Fenno(Armonk, N.Y.).Winning points for Bates (2-1), ranked sixth in New England, were sophomore Ben Stein (Pelham, N.Y.) at No. 3 singles, Fenno at No. 6 singles and the duo of Fenno and first-year Mike Reiss(Rockville Centre, N.Y.) at third doubles. Perhaps the match's greatest spectacle came in a marathon battle at No. 5 singles, where Brandeis's Cliff Silverman defeated Bates sophomore Mike Sherman(Huntington, N.Y.) in a super tiebreaker, 4-6, 6-3 (16-14).
In October at the Wallach Men's Tennis Invitational, Fenno won the championship match in the D Singles Flight with a 6-4, 6-4 defeat of Bowdoin's Andrew McDonald.
