Bates junior Rob Munrowas a force Sunday in Bates' 1-0, first-round, double-overtime NESCAC Championship victory at Wesleyan.The goalkeeper from Walpole, Mass., made 10 saves in over 102 minutes of action in earning the shutout, despite a 17-6 Wesleyan advantage in shots taken. Five of his saves were from point-blank range.

For his performance, Munro was named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week in men's soccer on Monday, along with Amherst goalie Jeff Grover.

Munro was 2-0-1 in the past week with two shutouts, and he sports a 5-0-2 record overall this season. He currently leads the NESCAC in goals-against average (0.31) and save percentage (.909).

Bates senior Mary Buccifound the perfect time to score her first two goals of the season, netting both of Bates’ goals in Sunday’s 2-1 overtime victory at Tufts in the first round of the 2006 NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship.The forward from Norfolk, Mass., shot from 30 yards out won the game in the fifth minute of overtime, completing the seventh-seeded Bobcats' upset of No. 2 seed Tufts. She also scored off a corner kick by junior Molly Wagner in the game's ninth minute to give Bates the early 1-0 lead.

Bucci was named NESCAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week for her performance.

During last year’s first-round game at Williams, Bucci scored the only goal of the game for a 1-0 win, as the Bobcats went on to win the 2005 NESCAC Women’s Soccer Championship.

Bates plays at Amherst this Saturday at 11 a.m. in the semifinals of the NESCAC Championship.
