|Greg Nelson '09
Sophomore forward Greg Nelson(Greenwich, Conn.) scored just once as a freshman in 2005. Now starting on the Bobcats' front line, he has been the most consistent performer in the young 2006 season on the Bates squad, scoring once in each game thus far. After already scoring Bates' lone goal in its first two games of the season in losses at Bowdoin and Amherst, Nelson struck again with the game-winner in a 1-0 win at Trinity on Sunday.
He battled Bantam goalkeeper Spencer Durland in front of the Trinity net with less than 11 minutes left in the game, taking multiple shots before finding the back of the goal to break a 0-0 stalemate.
|Emily Sampson '09
Sophomore forwardEmily Sampson(Plymouth, N.H.) netted her second goal of the game halfway through the second overtime period, giving the Bates College field hockey team a 3-2 victory at Amherst College on Saturday.Sampson scored an unassisted goal with 15 minutes left in regulation, following an unassisted tally by teammate Lindsey Ferguson as the Bobcats rebounded from a 2-0 first-half deficit.
Sampson finished off the stunning comeback 5 minutes and 21 seconds into the second overtime period by converting a rebound of a shot by senior teammate Carolyn King(Hanover, Mass.).
Bates (3-0, 1-0 NESCAC) is off to its best start since 1995.
