Men's basketball senior co-captain Bryan Wholey(Marshfield, Mass.) led Bates to a 2-0 week last week, averaging 39 minutes per game, 22.5 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game while shooting .485 from the field.Wholey tied a career high with 28 points in Bates' 72-68 overtime win at Tufts on Saturday, matching the mark he set one year ago against the Jumbos. He tallied six of his points in overtime, while Bates outscored Tufts 9-5, and 11 more of them during the second half, while Bates came all the way back from a 14-point deficit.Wholey won NESCAC Player of the Week honors for his performances, and also captured state Co-Player of the Week honors from the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches and Writers Association.
Wholey currently leads the Bobcats in scoring at 15.8 points per game, the third highest average in the NESCAC, while also ranking among the league's top 16 in rebounding (5.6 rpg), assists (4.0 apg), free throw percentage (.732) and steals (1.88 spg). In conference games, he is scoring at a league-best clip of 21.3 points per game, is sixth in rebounding at 7.7 rpg, and is fourth in assists at 4.67 apg.

Bates sophomore Vantiel Elizabeth Duncan(Topsham, Maine) qualified provisionally for the NCAA Division III Championships, highlighting the Bates College women's track and field team's dual meet win over Colby College Saturday at Merrill Indoor Gymnasium. The host Bobcats outscored the visiting Mules by a 94-87 margin in team points.A day after entering Bates' all-time top 10 performance list in the 20-pound weight throw at the BU Terrier Classic, Duncan went over four feet beyond that on Saturday, winning the event with a top throw of 52'02.75". She also took first place in the shot put at the Colby meet, with a top put of 39'10.75".Duncan displaced teammate and senior co-captain Cassandra Kirkland (Greene, Maine) at No. 4 on Bates' all-time performance list in the weight throw, even though Kirkland, too, notched a personal record on Saturday with a toss of 49'05.50", also meeting the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
