Brian Mahoney '08
On the last day of his baseball career at Bates, senior shortstop Brian Mahoney(Sudbury, Mass.) broke his own Bates single-season hits record of 48, established in 2006, with his 49th and 50th hits of the season. The Bobcats went 4-2 in their final week to finish 14-21, their most victories since going 14-8 in 1994. Mahoney drove in six runs on the week and finished with a .368 batting average and 30 RBIs, the most by a Bobcat in over a decade.Mahoney played and started more games (125 and 124, respectively) and recorded more at-bats (488) than any Bates baseball player in history, and his name is all over the program record book. His career hits record of 175 exceeds the old one formerly owned by Nate Maxwell by 40 hits (teammate Erik Hood '08 also surpassed the old record, with 138). Mahoney also owns Bates' career records for total bases (224) and singles (137).

Bates College juniorStacia Saniukfinished her junior season already atop the Bates softball career lists for home runs, extra-base hits and total bases, and this week she was named to the NESCAC Softball All-Conference First Team.It is the third All-NESCAC award in as many years for Saniuk (Sharon, Mass.), who was a Second Team honoree in both 2007 and 2006. She was voted NESCAC Rookie of the Year in 2006.

A catcher and third baseman for the Bobcats as well as the team captain, Saniuk led the team in most offensive categories, including batting average (.395), home runs (5), RBIs (19), slugging percentage (.628) and on-base percentage (.447). She ranked sixth in the NESCAC in slugging, tied for sixth in the conference in home runs, and ranked 10th in the NESCAC in both batting average and on-base percentage.

Saniuk set the Bates career home runs record early in the season with her 14th, and extended it to 17 career homers before the season ended. She also already owns the Bates record for career total bases (166) and is tied withRachel Clayton '90 for the career extra-base hits record, with 37.
