Bates junior Chris Murtagh(Rowley, Mass.) won two events on Saturday in a tri-meet with Colby and host MIT, and meanwhile continued his emergence as one of the top throwers in the region.Murtagh, a team captain, had a second consecutive outstanding meet, winning the hammer throw (174-00) and the javelin. After he last week qualified for NCAAs provisionally in the hammer throw, this week Murtagh also met provisional NCAA qualifications in the javelin, with a personal record throw of 190-3, moving up to fourth on Bates' all-time performance list in the event. Murtagh also finished fifth in the disccus throw (137-11) and eighth in the shot put (42-04.75) at the meet.
Murtagh and the Bobcats will compete in the State of Maine Men's Outdoor Championships this Saturday at Colby.

In a 2-1 week for the Bates women's lacrosse team, sophomore midfielder Jenna Dannis(Milford, N.H.) did what she does best on the lacrosse field: a lot of everything. She scored eight goals and added an assist, for starters. Dannis also totaled 10 ground balls, caused seven turnovers and controlled nine draws on the week.In addition to ranking second on the team in scoring with 19 points, Dannis entered this week ranked 43rd among all players in Division III in caused turnovers per game (2.0), as well as 60th in draw controls (3.56) and 173rd in ground balls (2.89).
Dannis and the Bobcats play host to Colorado College on Sunday at 10 a.m.
