Bates junior catcher/designated hitterGordy Webb(Hampden, Maine) delivered the game's biggest hit in all three wins over the weekend against Colby. On Friday, his two-run double in the eighth lifted Bates to a 3-1 win. On Saturday, his two-run single keyed a five-run seventh inning in a 7-3 win in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Colby. In Game 2, Webb hit a grand slam in a 7-2 win. Webb also went 2-for-4 with an RBI double at Maine.While Bates went 7-1 on the week -- the Bobcats' only loss was at Division I Maine, where Webb went 2-for-4 with an RBI double -- Webb hit .414 (12-for-29), with an on-base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .759, with 12 runs scored and 12 RBIs. On Saturday the Bobcats raised their record to 19-8, breaking the program record for wins in a season, formerly held by the 18-6 1984 team.

Webb's feats were well-recognized: on Monday he was named NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week, and on Tuesday he also picked up ECAC Division III Co-Player of the Week honors on Tuesday, sharing the award with Kevin Lyons of Westfield State.

Lauren Dobish '12
Bates sophomore Lauren Dobish(Chambersburg, Pa.) continued her superb softball season last week, leading Bates to a 2-3 record. The second baseman batted .467 (7-for-15) on the week, including three doubles and her first career home run, scoring six runs and driving in five more with a slugging percentage of .867. She reached base at a .556 clip.Dobish entered this week leading the Bobcats in almost every offensive category this season, hitting .432 with 16 runs scored and 18 RBIs, with an on-base percentage of .462 and a slugging percentage of .622. She ranked sixth in the NESCAC in batting at the start of the week, and led all conference players in doubles per game (0.48).

A three-sport athlete -- she is a member of Bates' women's soccer and basketball teams -- Dobish has shown major improvement in her numbers over last season, when she finished with a .247 average, a .325 slugging percentage and a .284 on-base percentage.
