|Jared Jammal '11
Although he's a senior at Bates, thanks in great part to injury Jared Jammalhad never carried the ball for Bates before this season. But this year Jammal has been a key component in Bates' new triple-option offfense. He has toted the ball 51 times already, more than any other running back on the team save for sophomore Patrick George, and has yet to be thrown for a loss. Jammal is second on the team in rushing yards, with 169.
Jammal's production reached a new peak on Saturday, in Bates' 21-20 loss at Bowdoin. The 6-foot-1, 230-pound bruiser from Concord, Mass., was called upon for 13 carries and struck for a season-high 56 yards, including a 1-yard touchdown plunge that, after Gavin Segall-Abrams' extra point, gave Bates a 14-6 lead in the second quarter.
It was Jammal's fourth rushing touchdown this year, with all four coming within the past four games. He is not only among the conference leaders in rushing touchdowns, but has scored 80 percent of Bates' ground scores.
Jammal and his 14 fellow senior teammates take to the field for the final time in the Bobcats' season finale against Hamilton this Saturday. Kickoff is at 12 p.m.
|Tina Tobin '12
Tina Tobin's fifth goal of the 2010 Bates women's soccer season gave the Bobcats hope that they'd play another day. With 39 minutes left in Bates' 4-1 loss at Amherst in the semifinal round of the NESCAC Women's Soccer Championship, junior Tobin (Lowell, Mass.) andAlix Vandeventer(North Attleboro, Mass.) connected for a Bates goal for the fifth time this season, when Vandeventer passed to Tobin in the Amherst penalty area, and with only Amherst goalkeeper Allie Horwitz to beat, Tobin calmly placed her shot inside the near post to make it a 2-1 game. With the loss, an interesting season for the Bobcats ended at 6-8-2, including a victory earlier in the year over Williams and ties against Amherst and Tufts.Tobin led Bates in scoring for the second straight season in 2010, with five goals and four assists for 14 points, following a 5-goal, 1-assist campaign in 2009. Vandeventer led the team in assists (5) and was second in points (11).
