Bates senior Joan O’Neill earns Bobcat of the Week honors for the second straight week, after another brilliant performance led the women's lacrosse team to a 2-1 week.
O’Neill (Westwood, Mass.) had at least six points in all three games last week, for a total of nine goals and 10 assists — four goals and two assists in a 12-10 loss to Bowdoin, three goals and four assists in an 11-10 win over Williams, and two goals and four assists in Sunday’s 16-6 win at Wellesley. She also collected six ground balls on the week.
In the meantime, O’Neill became Bates’ all-time points leader, surpassing the former record of 182 held by Molly Wagner ’08. She now owns four major team scoring records: career points (193), career assists (63), points in a season (70 in 2011) and assists in a season (26 in 2011). The 2011 NESCAC points-per-game scoring champion leads the conference again in that category this season, with 5.33, and also ranks first in goals per game (3.67) and sixth in assists per game (1.67).
O’Neill was named NESCAC Co-Player of the Week for her efforts, her first time winning the award for the defending conference scoring champion.
