Bates first-year Emily Hayes (Natick, Mass.) enjoyed her best weekend to date in an already stellar rookie campaign on the Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association circuit last weekend, leading the women's alpine team in all three of the team's races.
On Friday, Hayes took 14th place in the giant slalom at the Dartmouth Winter Carnival, held at Dartmouth Skiway, with a two-run combined time of 1:57.34, followed closely by fellow first-year Katie Fitzpatrick (Larkspur, Calif.) in 15th at 1:57.38.
In Saturday's slalom races at Dartmouth, Hayes posted a two-run combined time of 1:40.09, sixth best among 68 competitors, leading the Bates women for a second straight day. It was Hayes’ third top-six carnival showing this year, with all three coming in the slalom.
Hayes finished up a busy and productive weekend with her best giant slalom performance of the season, as the EISA tour made up the GS races missed at the UNH Carnival two weeks ago by staging GS races at Burke Mountain. Hayes' second run was the third fastest in the field, and her two-run combined time of 2:02.84 ranked fifth among 67 competitors.
Hayes and the Bates ski teams compete at the Williams Winter Carnival this weekend.
