Bates senior Tina Tobin has battled injuries in her final outdoor track and field season, but she shook them off on Saturday at the 2012 New England Division III Championships at MIT, with a career-best effort in the 400-meter hurdles.
Tobin (Lowell, Mass.), already the Bobcats' record holder in the 100-meter hurdles from 2009, has focused more on the 400 hurdles this outdoor season. The result on Saturday was fifth place in the event, with a time of 1:03.36, helping Bates finish ninth at the meet as a team.
Tobin was one of 13 team members to receive All-New England honors for scoring at the meet, and she moved ahead of Kelly Frazier and into second place on Bates' all-time list in the event, behind only five-time All-American Izzy Alexander '09 (1:01.78). Tobin's performance raised her standing to No. 26 among all 400 hurdlers in Division III this season.
