A lot of players made big contributions to the Bates women's basketball team's 4-0 week. But in the Bobcats' toughest game of the week, a 74-62 win at Norwich University in the championship game of the Hockenbury Classic on Saturday, senior Kelsey Flaherty was truly exceptional.
Flaherty (South Portland, Maine) flirted with a triple-double in the game, posting career highs of 17 points and 10 assists to go with seven rebounds, and she earned tournament MVP honors, too. The day before against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Flaherty had a career-high nine rebounds with 13 points.
Flaherty, who has rehabiliated herself from two season-ending injuries in her career, averaged 10.5 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game on the week, while shooting 13-for-15 from the free-throw line.
Flaherty currently ranks among NESCAC leaders in scoring (9.5 ppg, 29th), free-throw percentage (.882, 5th), rebounding (5.8 rpg, 17th), field goal percentage (.452, 15th), assists (3.83 apg, 8th) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.88).
