Led by sophomore Emily Hayes, the Bates women’s alpine ski team had three skiers place among the top 25 on Friday in the giant slalom portion of the weather-abbreviated Dartmouth Carnival.
Hayes (Natick, Mass.) placed 16th and senior captain Zoe Livingston (Sharon, Vt.) took 17th, leading the Bates women’s alpine ski team to the fifth-most points among 12 teams, with 72. Hayes had a two-run combined time of 2:10.19, 16th best out of 63 competing women. Livingston was right behind at 2:10.36, and sophomore Emily Bamford (East Melbourne, Australia) placed 25th in 2:11.15 to round out Bates' scoring.
Hayes' performance moved her up to 19th place in overall NCAA rankings among skiers in the NCAA East region, with two carnivals remaining before the NCAA Championships. Taking away all but the top three women skiers from Vermont and Dartmouth, Hayes moves into 16th on the list, putting her in good position to qualify for a second straight trip to nationals.
