An All-NESCAC shortstop in 2011, Bates senior Ryan Sonberg (Windsor, Conn.) battled injury for much of his junior year in 2012, leading to an up-and-down season. His performance in Sunday's doubleheader at Husson University seemed to confirm that Sonberg is locked in for an excellent senior season in the garnet uniform.
In Bates' 10-2 victory in Game 1 -- the Bobcats' first outing in exactly one month -- Sonberg batted 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
The Bobcats fell 5-3 to the Eagles in the nightcap, but Sonberg remained on fire, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run while driving in two runs. In the two games combined, he was 6-for-9 with 12 total bases, for a slugging percentage of 1.333.
Sonberg currently ranks second in the NESCAC in home runs, with two, and in slugging percentage, at a lofty .743.
