Senior Matt Morris (Rockville, Md.) took fifth place (26:08.8) to help the Bates men's cross country team win the Maine State Meet for the third time in the past four seasons.
Four seniors earned all-state honors for finishing in the top seven, leading the No. 21 nationally ranked Bobcats to victory. While senior captain Zach Magin (West Hartford, Conn.) led Bates with a third-place finish out of 151 individuals, this is Morris' first time earning all-state honors.
Bates had seven of the first 12 runners to cross the finish line, scoring 31 points to defeat host and runner-up Bowdoin (42) by 11. Southern Maine finished third (69), with the University of New England (149) and Colby (159) rounding out the top five of 12 teams overall.
Bates next races on Oct. 28, when it will host the NESCAC Championships at Pineland Farms in New Gloucester.
