Bates sophomore Jon Lindgren was named NESCAC Football Defensive Player of the Week on Sunday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, after his sensational performance in Saturday's 24-17 win over Bowdoin.
Lindgren (Plainville, Conn.) flew all over the field on Saturday, collecting career-highs of 16 tackles (11 solo) and six pass breakups, more than any Bobcat in any game this season. Lindgren also blocked a field goal attempt in the first quarter.
Bates' victory was the team's seventh straight against Bowdoin and made the Bobcats outright CBB (Colby-Bates-Bowdoin) champions for the fourth season in a row, a first in the program's 123-season history.
Lindgren has started at free safety in all eight games this season, after playing almost exclusively on special teams as a freshman. He leads the Bobcats (2-6) in tackles (63), solo tackles (42), pass breakups (12) and blocked kicks (1).
