LEWISTON, Maine -- While a pair of major athletic events are taking place at Bates College this weekend, other Bates teams are scattered around New England as the winter season begins to enter the playoff and championship phase.
Bates is hosting the New England Division III Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships, which began with the pentathlon on Friday and continues with 20 other events on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Walter Slovenski Indoor Track. Bates is also hosting a quarterfinal game of the NESCAC Women's Basketball Championship, with the third-seeded Bobcats facing the No. 6 Amherst College Lord Jeffs. The game tips off Saturday at 3 p.m. at Alumni Gymnasium.
Elsewhere, the men's basketball team plays at Amherst in the NESCAC Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals. That game will also be webcast live on Amherst College radio.
The women's squash team is at Yale University for the College Squash Association team nationals, also known as the Howe Cup. From Friday through Sunday, the No. 10 nationally ranked Bobcats will vie for their fourth straight Kurtz Cup as the champion of the bracket for seeds 9 through 16. Check on their progress here.

While the men's track and field team is at home, the women's indoor track and field team will also be competing at the New England Division III Championships Saturday at the University of Southern Maine. Results will be posted here.
Meanwhile, the Bates alpine and Nordic ski teams are at the Williams College Winter Carnival Friday and Saturday in the penultimate carnival of the season, as the Bobcats continue to pile up points in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Championships at the University of New Hampshire.
