LEWISTON, Maine -- The second annual Bates Field Day is slated to take place this Sunday, May 3, rain or shine, on the campus of Bates College.
The event, organized by the Bates Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), began last year and brought together some 200 local children with about 100 Bates student-athletes for an afternoon of playing an array of games all across campus. Bates Field Day will consist of various sports activities led by Bates student-athletes, such as soccer, kickball, relay races, and more. The aim of the event is to provide local youths an opportunity to interact with Bates student-athletes as well as foster stronger ties between college and community. (See the story from last year's inaugural Bates Field Day.)
The event is free of charge and open to all children in grades 1 through 6. It will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration takes place from 12 p.m. to 12:45 in Merrill Indoor Gymnasium. Free T-shirts will be given out while supplies last.
