LEWISTON, Maine -- Another busy weekend in Bates winter sports has arrived. Here's a rundown of what's going on with the Bobcats, and the best way to follow them.
Men's and women's basketball host a pair of NESCAC doubleheaders this weekend in Alumni Gym. On Friday night, Amherst College arrives, with the No. 1-ranked women's basketball team taking on Bates at 6 p.m., followed by the men's game at 8 p.m. Trinity College visits on Saturday afternoon in the penultimate conference games for both Bates hoop teams, with the women's game at 2 p.m., followed by the men's game at 4 p.m. If you can't make it to Alumni Gym for all the action, you can still follow both games via Live Webcast and Live Stats, both free of charge.
Men's and women's squash travel to Trinity College this weekend for the NESCAC Squash Championships, where both squads enter as the No. 3 seed out of 11 teams. The Bates men will play the winner between 11th seed Wesleyan and sixth seed Amherst on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the conference quarterfinals. The winner of that match will go on to the semifinal round, likely to be No. 2 seed Williams, on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. The loser of Bates' first match will play at that same time. The women's team will play the winner between 11th seed Connecticut College and sixth seed Hamilton on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the conference quarterfinals. The winner of that match will go on to the semifinal round, also likely against No. 2 seed Williams, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The loser of Bates' first match will play at that same time.
Women's indoor track and field has its annual State of Maine Championships Friday night at Bowdoin, starting at 6 p.m. Men's indoor track and field, meanwhile, has the men's state indoor meet on Saturday at the University of Southern Maine, also at 6 p.m.
The Bates alpine and Nordic skiing teams return to action after a week's break in the EISA Carnival schedule. They're at the UVM Carnival this weekend, with alpine events taking place Friday and Saturday at Stowe Mountain Resort, and Nordic races at Trapp Family Lodge on Saturday and Sunday.
Bates' swimming and diving teams have their final regular-season meet of the season on Saturday at Wellesley College, in a tri-meet including NESCAC rival Connecticut College at 1 p.m.
