Field hockey team, 8 players win academic honors from NFHCA








LEWISTON, Maine -- Eight members of the Bates field hockey team were named to the 2011 Gladiator/National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad today. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

Bates' honored athletes included four-time honorees Amanda Brusca '12 (Pride's Crossing, Mass.) and Sarah Merullo '12 (Essex, Mass.) and two-time honorees Michelle Brady '13 (Milton, Mass.), Polly Merck '14 and Sarah Warden '14 (North Andover, Mass.). Jillian Conway '15 (Andover, Mass.), Caroline Falcone '15 (New Canaan, Conn.) and Nicole Santosuosso '13 (Canton, Mass.) are first-time recipients of National Academic Squad recognition.

Bates also earned one of the 2011 NFHCA Division IIII National Academic Team Awards, which recognizes those teams that achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.
