LEWISTON, Maine -- This weekend affords a great opportunity to watch many of Bates' fall varsity athletic teams in action on their home turf.
The field hockey, men's soccer and women's soccer teams are all hosting NESCAC weekend doubleheaders, with all three teams facing Amherst on Saturday (field hockey and women's soccer at 11am; men's soccer at 2pm), then Trinity on Sunday (field hockey at 11am, women's soccer at 12pm, men's soccer at 2pm) -- 20 percent of their respective conference schedules.
Bates volleyball hosts Hamilton in its NESCAC opener on Friday night at 8pm (as with the above teams, home volleyball matches can be viewed via live video streaming), before traveling to Rivier College on Saturday to face Wentworth at 1pm and the hosts at 3pm.
At beautiful Pineland Farms in nearby New Gloucester, the men's and women's cross country teams are hosting Tufts University on Saturday morning. The men's race (11am) will pit the top two teams in New England. The women's race (11:45am) will also feature two teams ranked among the top eight regionally.
Another beautiful home site near the Bates campus, Martindale Country Club in Auburn, will have the women's golf teams from Bates and Bowdoin competing against one another on Saturday, beginning at 11am.
The only two teams competing on the road this weekend are men's tennis, which opens the fall season at the Middlebury Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, and men's golf, which plays at the Husson Invitational on Saturday at Penobscot Valley Country Club in Orono (10am).
