Hayes, Livingston lead women's alpine at Dartmouth

LYME CENTER, N.H. -- The Bates women's alpine ski team had three skiers place among the top 25 on Friday in the giant slalom portion of the Darmouth Carnival.

Sophomore Emily Hayes (Natick, Mass.) placed 16th and senior captain Zoe Livingston (Sharon, Vt.) took 17th, leading the Bates women's alpine ski team to the fifth-most points among 12 teams, with 72.

With half of the Dartmouth Carnival now complete, Bates' combined alpine and Nordic teams stand fifth among 15 teams, with 238, trailing only Vermont (501), Dartmouth (443), Middlebury (383) and New Hampshire (364).

Hayes had a two-run combined time of 2:10.19, 16th best out of 63 competing women. Livingston was right behind at 2:10.36, and sophomore Emily Bamford (East Melbourne, Australia) placed 25th in 2:11.15 to round out Bates' scoring.

First-year Chris Bradbury (Norwich, Conn.) placed 28th out of 54 in the men's GS to lead the Bates men's squad, going 1:06.07 and 58.50 for a combined time of 2:04.57. First-year Tanner Dirstine (Boise, Idaho) took 31st at 2:05.44.

With Saturday’s slalom races postponed to Feb. 17 at Dartmouth Skiway due to Winter Storm Nemo, Friday's GS results were doubled to finalize the carnival scoring. The Feb. 17 slalom results will only be used in qualification for the NCAA Championships. Bates’ combined alpine and Nordic teams thus finished in fifth place among 15 teams at the carnival, with 493 points, outpacing St. Lawrence (429), Colby (412) and Williams (409).

Bates next competes at the MIddlebury Carnival Feb. 15-16 at Middlebury Snow Bowl.
