HARTFORD, Conn. -- Trinity College broke open a 4-0 game with five runs in the sixth inning, going on to defeat Bates College 14-2 in a NESCAC East Division contest on Friday.

The game was originally scheduled to be played at Bates but was moved to Trinity due to snow in Lewiston.

The Bantams (15-3, 2-2 NESCAC East) scored four runs in the third inning off of Bates (2-9, 0-4) sophomore starter Ben Shwartz (Mattapoisett, Mass.), including a three-run home run by junior Matt Stafford. But Shwartz, who was charged with six earned runs in five innings, shut out Trinity for two more innings before running into trouble in the sixth. He faced three Bantams in the five-run sixth inning before giving way to sophomore Ben Thayer (Gorham, Maine).

Thomas DiBenedetto and Sean Killeen each went 3-for-4 for Trinity, with DiBenedetto scoring four times and driving in three runs.

Chandler Barnard shut the Bobcats out for six innings, allowing two of Bates' four hits in earning the win.

Bates scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning, as junior Casey McCormack's (Keene, N.H.) double drove home first-year Josh Linscott (Portland, Maine), who had singled. Junior Denis Hogan's (Franklin, Mass.) sacrifice fly later scored first-year pinch runner Joe Szerejko (West Hartford, Conn.).

Senior Rob Schuler (Hanover, Mass.) had two hits for the Bobcats.

First-year Custer Cook (Philadelphia, Pa.) threw a scoreless ninth inning for Bates.

Bates plays a doubleheader against the Bantams Saturday, starting at 12 p.m.
