Baseball team meets Clarkson in Florida





SANFORD, Fla. -- Clarkson University defeated Bates College 10-3 on Sunday in a non-conference baseball game at the Central Florida Invitational.

Brett Peplowski and Austin Pitkin each homered for Clarkson (4-1), while David Goerold earned the win in his first collegiate start, allowing three unearned runs over seven innings.

Sophomore Custer Cook (Philadelphia, Pa.) started, lasted three innings and took the loss for the Bobcats (1-2), who collected six hits. Sophomore Ryan Horvath (Fort Myers, Fla.) came on for three innings of relief, allowing just one run.

Junior Matt Devin (Bridgewater, Mass.) went 2-4 for Bates. Senior Alex Egelson (Fairfield, Conn.) went 1-4, including a two-run double in Bates' three-run fifth inning. Senior Brian Buckley (Andover, Mass.) went 1-4 with a run and an RBI.

Bates plays a doubleheader against Grove City (Pa.) College on Monday in their Florida finale.
