PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Bates College baseball team scored at least one run in all nine innings Monday afternoon en route to a 14-5 victory over Plymouth State University in a non-conference baseball game at Panther Park.

Senior Tom Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) and junior Chris Burke (Andover, Mass.) led the way for the Bobcats with three hits apiece in the 14-hit attack, and juniors Pat Murphy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Jake Simon (Waterford, Conn.) each clouted home runs. Bates won its sixth game in a row to become the first Bobcat team to reach 20 wins, at 20-8, while Plymouth State dropped to 6-23.

Junior Noah Lynd (Meriden, N.H.) recorded the victory (2-0) on the mound for Bates, allowing just one run on six hits through six innings and finishing with no walks or strikeouts. Three other Bobcat hurlers worked one inning apiece to close out the game.

Freshman Rew Wilson (Niantic, Conn.) led an 11-hit Panther attack with two hits and a walk, including his first career home run to put PSU on the board in the fifth inning.  Junior Dan Eagan (Norwich, Conn.) delivered a two-out, two-run double to spark an eighth-inning Panther rally, followed by an RBI single by junior Grant Livingston (Niantic, Conn.).  Sophomore Jimmy Higgins (South Boston, Mass.) also added an RBI hit in the ninth inning.

The Bobcats plated two runs in the first inning on a double by Lynd and a sacrifice fly by junior Gordy Webb (Hampden, Maine), and Murphy hit a two-run homer in the second inning, his second of the year, to make it 4-0. Bates got solo runs in the next three innings, scoring one on one of PSU’s six errors, one on a sacrifice fly by Burke and one on an infield groundout.

After PSU got on the board in the last of the fifth, Bates added two in the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Lynd and an RBI single by Webb. Freshman Kevin McGregor (Randolph, N.J.) doubled and scored in the seventh inning, and Simon added a solo blast, his sixth of the season, in the eighth.

Bates added three more runs in the ninth inning on an RBI single by Beaton, an infield grounder by Lynd and a sacrifice fly by junior Rich Velotta (Fairfield, Conn.).
