LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates College junior Noah Lynd received his third postseason honor this week, as the American Baseball Coaches Association released its Division III All-Region teams. Lynd was named Third Team All-New England by the organization, the official governing body of college baseball.
The honor follows a pair of postseason awards Lynd garnered in May, when he was named Third Team All-New England by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association, as well as First Team All-Conference by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, joining four teammates -- senior Tom Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.), junior Chris Burke (North Andover, Mass.), junior Ryan Heide (Medfield, Mass.) and junior Jake Simon (Waterford, Conn.) -- on the all-conference team.
Among the many outstanding seasons produced by Bates players this season, Lynd (Meriden, N.H.) stood out, becoming the first Bobcat ever to reach double digits in home runs by blasting a conference-best 15 round-trippers on the year, to go with a .398 batting average, 44 RBIs and a .912 slugging percentage. Lynd meanwhile showed dramatic improvement from a season ago, when he slugged .337 with one homer and six RBIs.
Lynd set team single-season records in homers, RBIs, slugging, total bases and extra-base hits. He also reached base at an outstanding .517 clip.
Lynd also proved to be a valuable contributor to the Bates pitching staff, going 2-0 with a 3.50 earned run average in five appearances, including four starts.
