BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates baseball team rallied for two runs with two outs in the top of the 10th inning, and the Bobcats stamped out a Husson rally in the bottom of the inning to post a 7-5 win on Monday at Winkin Complex. The Bobcats' second straight win lifted their record this season to 6-7.

Bates senior Pat Murphy (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) hit a one-out single to right field in the 10th inning, then stole second base after senior Chris Burke's (North Andover, Mass.) fly out. Senior Noah Lynd (Meriden, N.H.) and sophomore Kevin McGregor (Randolph, N.J.) drew consecutive walks to load the bases for senior Gordy Webb (Hampden, Maine). Webb reached on an error by Husson's third baseman as Murphy and Lynd both came home on a two-base error by Husson's third baseman.

Lynd, who had already pitched the eighth and ninth innings for Bates, came back out to pitch the 10th as well. The Eagles then mounted a two-out rally of their own, on a single by Shawn Smith followed by a double by Chris Maguire. Lynd induced Josh Gaudette into a game-ending pop-up.

Daniel Beatham started for the Eagles, throwing two scoreless innings while striking out three and allowing just one hit. Bates jumped out to take the lead in the third, plating a pair on a bases-loaded, ground-rule double by Webb in the gap that would skip off the turf and over the retaining wall. After a walk to load the bases, Husson spun a double play to end the inning.

In the fourth, the Eagles struck back as Jake Arthers singled to set the table for Crews, who homered to tie the game at 2. The next inning, Arthers doubled with two runners on, plating Ethan Guerette for the first Husson lead of the day.

In the sixth inning Bates tied the game again, on a two-out single by Murphy that scored junior Mike Ciummei (Acton, Mass.). The Bobcats took the lead in the top of the 7th on a ground-rule double by first-year Griff Tewksbury (Concord, N.H.) that plated McGregor, who walked two batters earlier and in the 8th they'd add another and Bates went up 5-3.

The Eagles responded in the 8th, when Kyle Vanidestine singled to center field. The next batter was Guerette, who walked, setting up Smith, who singled in one, and on a Bobcat throwing error, Husson tied the game.

In the top of the 9th, Bates had two on after Webb hit Bates' third ground-rule double of the night, forcing the Eagles to turn to their closer, Kyle Leeman, who struck out two to get out of the jam.

Senior Paul Chiampa (Pembroke, Mass.) started for Bates and went five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and four walks while striking out six. Sophomore Michael Spinosa (Charlottesville, Va.) pitched three innings in relief, allowing two runs, one earned on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The Bobcats take the diamond next on Friday, traveling to Tufts for a conference game beginning at 4 p.m.
