LEWISTON, Maine -- Beyond their academic work and preparation for the upcoming season, members of the Bates baseball team have spent a great deal of their time in the off-season by making a difference in the lives of local children.
The Bates baseball team partnered with the Tree Street Youth Center in Lewiston throughout the fall semester, working every Wednesday after school with fifth-grade students from Longley Elementary School. Bobcat team members interacted with the students by playing basketball, soccer, football, and other games with them.
On December 9th, the Bobcats culminated the program by purchasing gifts for the students at Tree Street.
"I have been so impressed with the level of commitment the guys have shown to this service project," said Bates head coach Mike Leonard. "They have been excellent representatives of Bates and our baseball program throughout our partnership with Tree Street, and I am excited to continue to build the relationship moving forward."
