CONCORD, N.H. -- Bates sophomore second baseman Griff Tewksbury was named First Team All-NESCAC on Wednesday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its 2012 All-Conference Baseball Teams. He is the only second baseman in the conference named to either team.
Tewksbury (Concord, N.H.) followed up an outstanding rookie season with an even better sophomore campaign in 2012. Starting all 40 games -- a new team record he shares with senior Mike Ciummei (Acton, Mass.) -- Tewksbury paced the Bobcats with a .375 batting average, a .482 on-base percentage, a .551 slugging percentage and 14 stolen bases. He was also second on the team in runs batted in (27) and home runs (3).
Tewksbury ranks ninth in the NESCAC in batting average, third in on-base percentage, fourth in total bases (75), fifth in walks (24) and is tied for fourth in doubles (13).
At second base, he committed only six errors on 164 chances (.963) and helped turn 18 double plays, and ranks third in the NESCAC in assists (103).
Tewksbury's 51 hits represent the fourth-highest total in team history. His 13 doubles tie him for the third-most of all time, and his 75 total bases are the fourth-most in team history, trailing only the 2010 campaigns of Noah Lynd '11, Chris Burke '11 and Jake Simon '11.
