Series/Last Meetings

Bates and Williams first met on the gridiron in 1988. Williams leads the series 18-1.  The Ephs had won all 15 meetings prior to the 2003 match-up on Weston Field, when the Bobcats pulled off a 10-7 upset.

Last year in Lewiston, Maine the Ephs rallied from a 7-3 halftime deficit to win 27-7. Matt Gregg hauled in five Brandon Colon passes for 128 yards, and Bates held Williams to 78 rushing yards. Ron DiGravio had eight tackles in the game, including 4.5 for a loss.

The last time the Ephs and Bobcats played on Weston Field it was in a torrential downpour and the Ephs got a 5-yard TD pass from QB Pat Lucey to TE Jim O'Leary with 10:05 to play to overcome Bates 8-7. The game marked the first collegiate start for Lucey, who won NESCAC Offensive Player of the Year honors last season. Starting at tailback due to injuries suffered the previous week by Jamie Walker and Greg Thornton, Eric Obeng gave the Bobcats a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, scoring on a 3-yard run. Obeng, normally a defensive lineman, punished Eph would-be tacklers for 110 yards on 35 carries on the day. It was the first victory of the season for Williams, which began a 14-game winning streak with the victory.
