Football team visits Trinity to open season
HARTFORD, Conn. -- The 2008 football season kicks off for Bates College and the rest of the New England Small College Athletic Conference on Saturday, with the Bobcats visiting Trinity College at 1 p.m.
The game will be Bates' first against the the Bantams since 2005. Bates hasn't faced the Bantams at Jessee/Miller Field, where Trinity enjoys a 27-game winning streak, since a 49-0 defeat on Sept. 25, 2004.

Other Bates teams competing this weekend include the volleyball team, which hosts Tufts University Friday night at 8 p.m. followed by Amherst College on Saturday at noon. The Bates field hockey and men's and women's soccer teams will all be at Amherst College on Saturday.
The Bates golf team competes in the Maine Intercollegiate Championship on Friday and Saturday at Natanis Golf Course in Vassalboro, then at the Colby Classic on Sunday at Waterville Country Club. The Bobcats men's tennis team opens play for the 2008-09 school year at the Middlebury Invitational, taking place Saturday and Sunday.
