LEWISTON, Maine — Safety Andrew Kukesh '14 has landed on another highly selective preseason All-America team: the rising senior and 2013 Bates football team co-captain was today named Second Team Preseason All-America by D3football.com.

Kukesh (Exeter, N.H.) is deemed one of the top four safeties in Division III by the website, occupying one of just 50 places overall on D3football.com's 2013 preseason All-America squad. He is the only player from a New England Small College Athletic Conference institution to receive a nod on the team.

Earlier this summer, Kukesh was also named to the First Team Defense on the Lindy's 2013 Division III Preseason All-America Team, further evidence of the Bates football program's ascendance.

One of two team captains on the 2013 Bobcats, along with slotback and fellow rising senior Shawn Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.), Kukesh is a two-time All-NESCAC selection, and was also named to the D3football.com 2012 All-East Region's Second Team Defense.

Kukesh helped propel Bates to the best Division III-best turnover differential in Division III last season, on the benefit of 32 defensive takeaways. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound safety tied for the NESCAC lead in interceptions with six and recorded a career-high 55 tackles (43 solo). Bates won the CBB Championship and went 5-3 in 2012, the team's best record since 1981.
