    Kurey, Riley, Upton named to All-NESCAC football team The Bates football team placed two underclassmen on the All-NESCAC First Team in Mark Riley and Mark Upton, and also saw senior punter David Kurey receive a Second Team nod on Tuesday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference announced its 2014 All-Conference Teams.

    Amherst escapes Bates for 14-6 win in opener Only a failed two-point conversion with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter kept the Bates College football team from pulling off an upset win at Amherst College. That and Amherst's subsequent 42-yard touchdown run with 1:06 to go gave the Lord Jeffs a 14-6 victory in the teams' season opener on Saturday at Pratt Field.
