BANGOR, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team fought its way past Husson College in a 2-1 non-league victory on the road Wednesday.  Allison Marshall (Princeton, N.J.) assisted on both goals, including the game-winner by first-year Morgan Maciewicz, to help pace Bates.

Bates moves to 4-2 on the season while Husson falls to 4-4.

Marshall found Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) in front of the net and Maciewicz got it past Husson goalie Kelly Bocchino with less than five minutes to play for the game-winning goal.  Marshall set up the tying goal 10 minutes into the second half on a pass to Rachel Greenwood (Williamstown, Mass.).

Bates senior goalie Sarah Sprague (Cleveland, Ohio) helped set up the win with a big save with 14 minutes to play.  Erica Dorso (Farmingdale, Maine) passed ahead to KaroleAnne Emery, who attacked alone on Sprague.  Sprague came out and made the sliding save out of the net.  Sprague ended the game with 4 saves on 9 shots.  Senior Molly Lanigan (Acton, Mass.) made a big defensive save to help keep the game tied with just under 10 minutes to play.

Kelly Bocchino was also solid in net, making 12 saves on 19 shots.  Jenika Kelly (Livermore, Maine) helped keep the game scoreless in the midway through the first half when she made a big defensive save.

Husson took a 1-0 lead just a 1:35 into the second half when Emery set up Dorso in front of the net off a corner.

Bates will host Williams College in a NESCAC matchup on Saturday at noon.
