LEWISTON, Maine -- The No. 5 nationally ranked Williams College field hockey team scored three unanswered goals in the second half to put away Bates College 5-1 Saturday in a NESCAC contest.

Williams' Rebecca Allen scored an unassisted goal in the first minute of the game, and Meighan McGowan fed Jess Overlander in the 30th minute to make it 2-0.

Bates sophomore Abby Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored off a penalty corner with 17 seconds left in the half to close the gap to 2-1, making the Bobcats only the second team this season to score on the Ephs.

But Williams asserted itself in the second half with a goal by Katherine Kreig three minutes in, followed by Charlotte VanWagenen's score off of McGowan's second assist, and McGowan's unassisted goal that made it 5-1 with 25 minutes left to play.

Williams (9-0, 5-0 NESCAC) received one save from starting goalie Emily Wasserman. Bates (4-3, 1-3) senior Sarah Sprague (Cleveland, Ohio) made eight saves.

Bates next plays at Bowdoin in a NESCAC contest on Oct. 11 at 5 p.m. Williams will face Colby on Sunday at 11 a.m.
