HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates College junior Abby Childs has been named Field Hockey Player of the Week by the New England Small College Athletic Conference, the NESCAC announced on Monday. She becomes the first Bobcat ever to receive the award in field hockey.
Childs (Philadelphia, Pa.) collected three goals and an assist during the Bobcats’ 2-0 week. She had one assist in Bates’ 2-1 victory over previously-unbeaten Southern Maine on Thursday before scoring three goals in a 5-4 win over Amherst on Saturday. Childs has registered a point in each outing so far this season as the Bobcats are off to a 3-0-1 start.
Childs currently is tied for eighth in the conference in both points per game (2.50) and goals per game (1.00).
Childs and her Bobcat teammates will host defending NESCAC champion Bowdoin on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
