LEWISTON, Maine -- Bates sophomore midfielder Jenna Dannis (Milford, N.H.) assisted on three goals as the Bates College field hockey team notched its first win of the season on Thursday, a 4-1 defeat of non-conference opponent UMaine-Farmington.

The Bobcats raised their record to 1-4 this season, while the visiting Beavers dropped to 2-3.

Bates outshot UMF by a 30-7 margin and built a 4-0 lead, but UMF scored with less than two minutes remaining to spoil the shutout for Bates junior goalie Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.). Alyssa St. Pierre dribbled in on a mini-breakaway and slapped a hard shot that rose over McEnroe's stick for her team-leading third goal of the season.

The Bobcats got on the board in the 22nd minute, when senior Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) received an upfield pass into the circle from Dannis and one-timed the ball past Beavers starting goalie Felisha Taylor. Bates made it 2-0 less than two minutes later when sophomore Lindsay Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) knocked in a rebound off a Taylor save.

Dannis set up first-year Laura Baran's (Pittsburgh, Pa.) second goal this season three minutes into the second half, then added her third assist in the 62nd minute, unleashing a hard shot from the right perimeter that Mary Lewis deftly redirected past UMF goalie Sarah Brown.

Taylor started in goal and finished with five saves, and was relieved at halftime by Brown, who had seven saves.

McEnroe made four saves in the winning effort.

Bates will play host to Trinity this Homecoming Saturday at 2 p.m.; UMF will host Lasell on Saturday at 2 p.m.

STATS: Bates 4, UMaine-Farmington 1
