Field hockey team, players win academic honors from NFHCA







LEWISTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team put six players on the 2009 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced on Thursday, while the team earned a 2009 National Academic Team Award.

The six Bobcats named to the 2009 NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad, for athletes who have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the Fall 2009 semester, are sophomore Amanda Brusca (Beverly, Mass.), junior Zoe Donaldson (Bronxville, N.Y.), senior Heidi Judkins (Farmington, Maine), sophomore Sarah Merullo (Essex, Mass.), first-year Alie Philip (Simsbury, Conn.) and first-year Danielle Traverse (West Hartford, Conn.).

Bates is one of 96 teams in Division III to receive the National Academic Team Award, which goes to teams that post mean grade point averages of 3.0 or higher.
