HADLEY, Mass. -- On Monday, the National Field Hockey Coaches Association announced the 2009 All-Region teams. Included in the honors were Bates College seniors Samantha Rothkopf and Morgan Maciewicz, who were named to the 2009 New England East Region Second Team.
A four-year starting back for the Bobcats, Rothkopf (Chicago, Ill.) was noted for her fierce competitiveness and hustle, as well as perhaps the hardest shot on the team. She scored one goal on the season. This is the second postseason award for Rothkopf, who was named to the All-NESCAC Second Team last week.
Over her four years, Rothkopf started 51 out of 56 games, scoring eight goals and adding eight assists with three defensive saves. Four of her eight goals were game-winning goals.
A captain for the 2009 season and starting midfielder, Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) was tied for the team high in goals (4) and second on the team in assists (3). In her career, Maciewicz started 27 out of 42 games, appearing in all 42 games. She scored eight goals and recorded five assists.
