LEWISTON, Maine -- Sophomore Riley Kundtz's first collegiate goal stood up as the only score in the game as the Bates College field hockey team shut out Husson University 1-0 for its first win of the season on Tuesday. Husson dropped to 2-3, while Bates raised its mark to 1-3.

Kundtz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) knocked in a pass from senior Sema Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) with 7:55 left in the first half to break a scoreless tie. The Bobcats supplied all the defense they needed the rest of the way, including a total of eight saves by senior goalkeeper Katie McEnroe (Hockessin, Del.). Husson didn't register any penalty corners in the second half after getting six in the first period, and Bates had a 22-16 advantage in shots taken.

Sophomore goalie Kristen Capen (Leeds, Maine) also recorded eight saves for Husson. Junior forward Kajsa Blindow (Morgan, Vt.) attempted nine of Husson's 16 shots in the game.

Bates has a NESCAC game at Trinity on Saturday at 11 a.m.; Husson hosts St. Joseph's on Saturday at 1 p.m.
