UMF comes from behind to tip field hockey, 4-2

FARMINGTON, Maine -- The Bates College field hockey team burst out to a 2-0 lead after 19 minutes, but the University of Maine at Farmington stormed back with three second-half goals to defeat the visiting Bobcats 4-2 in a non-conference game on Wednesday.

The host Beavers raised their record to 6-1 on the season and dropped the visiting Bobcats to 1-5. Bates plays at No. 2 nationally ranked Tufts on Saturday at 12 p.m.

Bates junior Lyndsay Beaton (West Newbury, Mass.) got the Bobcats on the board just two minutes and 20 seconds into the game with her team-best fourth goal, assisted by junior Kelly McManus (Plymouth, N.H.) on a penalty corner play. Senior Sema Kazarian (Providence, R.I.) added a second goal, her first of the season, on another assist by McManus for a 2-0 Bates lead with 16:20 left in the first half.

The Beavers began to climb back into the game with Sara Lane's first goal of the year, on a penalty corner with 4:58 left in the half, and the Bobcats took a 2-1 lead into intermission.

Lane tied it up in the 47th minute on ano0ther penalty corner, before Hattie Laliberte got into the act, scoring goals in the 55th and 63rd minutes, her sixth and seventh of the season.
