LEWISTON, Maine — Thirteen members of the Bates field hockey team were named to the 2012 Gladiator SGI / National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Academic Squad. The National Academic Squad program recognizes those collegiate student-athletes who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2011-12 academic year.

Bates’ repeat honorees on the squad included four-time awardee Nicole Santosuosso (Canton, Mass.). Other repeaters were seniors Laura Baran (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Michelle Brady (Milton, Mass.) and Alie Philip (Simsbury, Conn.), junior captain Sarah Warden (North Andover, Mass.), junior All-NESCAC forward Polly Merck (Beverly Farms, Mass.) and sophomores Jill Conway (Andover, Mass.) and Caroline Falcone (New Canaan, Conn.).

First-years Hannah Beinecke (Manchester, Mass.), Anna Berenson (Topsfield, Mass.), Alex Eliopoulos (Akron, Ohio), Danielle Pierce (Parsonsfield, Maine) and Cristina Vega (Needham, Mass.) also earned National Academic Squad distinction.
