HADLEY, Mass. -- Bates junior forward Polly Merck was named Second Team All-NESCAC on Wednesday, as the New England Small College Athletic Conference released its all-conference teams in field hockey.
Merck (Beverly Farms, Mass.) scored a team-high seven goals and added a team-high four assists for 18 points in all, finishing among the top 20 in scoring in the conference. Merck tied with Abby Childs' 2008 season and Sarah Overmyer's 2003 season for the most points by a Bobcat in the past 10 seasons.
She registered at least one point in eight of Bates' 14 games, including a two-goal effort in Bates' 3-2 NESCAC win at Hamilton on Sept. 29, and a one-goal, one-assist performance in the season opener against Williams.
Merck becomes Bates' first All-NESCAC honoree since defender Samantha Rothkopf '10 made the Second Team in 2009.
