Bates golf team finishes sixth at USM Scramble

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine -- The Bates College golf team finished in a tie for sixth place out of seven teams at the USM Scramble, held Friday at Sable Oaks Golf Course.

Bates' score of 64 placed the Bobcats behind event winner St. Joseph's College (54), host Southern Maine (59), the University of New England (60), UMaine-Farmington (60) and Thomas (62), and tied with Southern Maine's "Blue" squad (64).

Competing for Bates were first-year Whitney Roller (Haverford, Pa.), senior Dana Lee (New York, N.Y.), junior Will Randi (Garden City, N.Y.), senior Liam Downey (Arlington, Vt.) and sophomore Jeremy Ragulski (West Springfield, Mass.).

The Bobcats were without their top two scorers thus far in the 2006 season, first-year Kurt Schuler (Jackson, N.H.) and junior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.).

Bates plays Saturday at the CBB Tournament in Waterville, Maine, followed by the Husson Tournament on Sunday and Monday.
