ORONO, Maine -- Bates College's golf team was nipped by UMaine-Farmington and Thomas College and finished in ninth place at the two-day Husson College Invitational, which concluded on Monday at the par 72 Penobscot Valley Country Club.
The Bobcats carded an aggregate score of 674, right behind the Beavers (670) and Terriers (670), and ahead of last-place Maine Maritime (707). The host Eagles won the event by 38 strokes over second-place Tufts University, at 591.
Bates first-year Kurt Schuler (Jackson, N.H.) shot an 80 both days to lead the Bobcats in their season-ending competition. Junior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) fired a 79 on Sunday, but slipped back to 91 Monday for a two-day total of 170, tying senior teammate Chris Foster (Scarsdale, N.Y.), who shot an 88 and 82.
Senior Tom Bowden (Falmouth, Maine) scored a 93 Sunday and 82 on Monday for a 175, and sophomore Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) followed a 98 with a 90 for 188.
