Bates' Roller wins women's golf tournament at Bowdoin

TOPSHAM AND BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Bates College sophomore Whitney Roller won medalist honors in the Bowdoin College Women's Golf Kickoff tournament, held Saturday at Highland Green.


Roller (Haverford, Pa.) shot an 83, nine strokes ahead of the runner-up from Colby College. Bates junior Elizabeth Wilcox (South Glastonbury, Conn.) finished fourth, carding a 99.

At the men's Bowdoin Invitational at Brunswick G.C., Bates carded a team score of 320 after one day of action. Sophomore Kurt Schuler (Windham, N.H.) shot a team-best 77, followed by senior Jake Cox (Sammamish, Wash.) with a 78, first-year Mike Kelen (Baltimore, Md.) with an 80, and first-year John Canney (North Clarendon, Vt.) and junior Jeremy Rogalski (West Springfield, Mass.) with an 85 apiece.

The tournament continues on Sunday.
